Biography of Jan-Oliver Wenzel
Jan-Oliver Wenzel was born in 1967 and picked up photography at the age of 17.
In 1998 a trip to California made him aware of the home and work of artists Ansel Adams and Edward Weston.
2002: Sale of 7 large format prints of the series “Namib“.
2004: Published the picture “Boston Outdoors“ in “Photographie“ no. 12/04.
2005: Picture “Modern Munich III“ wins second place at competition “Rooms & Buildings“ of popular German magazine “Photographie“. Shows 42 prints in exhibition in Gallery “Lebensraum Kunst“ in Ottobrunn near Munich. Read Newspaper article on exhibition “42 Augenblicke“.
2006: Exhibition “Steps & Staircases” at Gallery Stephanie Hoppen in London, U.K. Participates in exhibition „Fernweh“ at Gallery Photocontact and Salon d’Art of Gallery Kaysser in Munich.
2007: Participates in exhibition at Gallery Stephen Hoffman in Munich together with artists like Annie Leibovitz, Günter Blum, Helmut Newton, Georg Silk. Luxury Hotel “Bayerischer Hof” in Munich acquires several prints. Travels again to California.
2008: Publication of his first book “Straight Images".
2009: His images are presented at the art fairs Photo L.A., Los Angeles and ArtKarlsruhe. ArtNow book “Through the Eyes of New Photographers” is published in March featuring his work.
2010: Winner at the juried competition EXPOSURE by Open Shutter Gallery, Durango/U.S.A. Shows "Straight Images" in Munich at Galerie Stephen Hoffman and Commerzbank.
2011:
Show "Jan-Oliver Wenzel & Cara Weston: Contemporary B&W Photography at Open Shutter Gallery, Durango/Colorado.
